I knew renders were going to take a while as we were pushing V-ray to the limit with some of the things we were asking it to do. After struggling for the best part of the week we realised that our own renderfarm wasn’t up to the job of getting the project done in time. Now we could have toned down the settings or tried to hold out hope that we could just about make it but we decided to take a hit in terms of the profitability of the job and outsource the rendering to Dann Stubbs over at RenderKing.com, a small but very dedicated Cinema 4D renderfarm in the states. Feature #3- Project File Storage and Management
One of the key features of the this application is a file management and storage facility for every project. Any documents, models, previews or animations will be stored centrally and easily accessible through the interface, and versions are stored sequentially in each milestone. Versions will then serve as a reference in the event of any disputes.
Hiring or Outsourcing – the 3D directors biggest problem when expanding
The general consensus was to outsource to trusted suppliers as opposed to hiring a 3d professional full time. It’s a tricky question and one that has no right or wrong answer. Obviously today’s economic climate means there is an aversion to risk, and planning long term has become much more difficult to do with the unpredictability of current markets.
Feature #2: The Dashboard
We are producing this software so that – apart from core functional purposes- it enhances how professionals work, so of course a key focus of our design/ development team is usability. While keeping everything as simple and easy on the eye as possible, the user journey is designed to be as intuitive as possible. With this in in mind version 1 of the software will have a dashboard as a key feature.
